Lurking won’t grow your online business.

Sitting in silence and tuning out of the online world is not noble.
It is overlooking that the communication landscape is changing.

People online are not shouting aimlessly into the void anymore.

(oh well, some are still)

They are learning the language of their target audience.

Understanding the rules of online attention.

You are here, reading and quietly nodding.
But that can change at any second.

You are one choice away from being a contributor.

What would that look like?

  • Being part of the conversation.

  • Taking a POV that resonates with your mission.

  • Connecting to people that you thought were out of your league.

But importantly, build a relevant audience.
One that gets what you do. One that sees your value.

Because without the right people around you, your best ideas, offers, and insights won’t matter.

Here’s a simple but effective framework I came across via Adriana Tica.

It’s a great starting point to grow your network (especially on LinkedIn!) with more intention.

Start connecting online with three categories of people:

  • Peers: 50%. Your tribe. Peers tend to be the most engaging with your content in the beginning of your journey. They will help to widen your network and who knows! potentially help you to land your next opportunity.

  • Your ICP (Ideal Customer Profile): 30%. Your next potential customer may be in this group. Note that your ICP is less likely to engage with your content.

  • People in complementary fields to yours: 20%. Great visual designers may need a writer (or vice-versa). Speakers may need website copy. Be creative and think: how could you complement someone else’s great work?
